| Dear Parents and Caretakers To be sure, children and their parents/caretakers have to work diligently to manage the day-to-day demands of school, social connections, and family. Even under the best of circumstances, setbacks can occur, though fortunately, most of the time we find ways to adjust. For some children, however, school, personal, and psychological functioning begins to falter, and parents are often unclear as to where the breakdown occurred, and need a hand in finding how to help. For example, inattention, a common concern, can result from a variety of causes. A thorough neuropsychological evaluation will facilitate the clarification of problematic functioning via assessment of the child's intellectual, academic, attention, memory, language, visual-spatial, and emotional skills, and provide parents with a "game plan" that will help their child to function in age-appropriate ways. An assessment generally takes 4-6 hours and is usually split between two half day sessions. Pre and post-assessment consultation with teachers, other doctors, and allied professionals is often required. Parents are also interviewed, and provided with feedback. I look forward to working with you and your child. Sincerely, Dr. Winegar
